The best t-shirt design ideas start with one question: who will wear this, and where will it be seen? A shirt for a run club reads from across a street. A shirt for a friend's birthday only has to make one person laugh. Below are 25 concepts in six styles, and a short checklist for picking one.
Type only
Six ideas that need no illustration. A single word in heavy letters. A short phrase on two lines. A date and a place. A name set like a film title. A line in the middle of a plain shirt, tiny, for people who look closely. A list of three things the wearer loves.

A small mark and a line
Five ideas for a quieter shirt. A small icon on the chest with a line on the back. A symbol with the year underneath. A tiny drawing of an object with its name. Initials in a circle. A mark on the sleeve and nothing else.
Illustration
Five ideas for a bigger statement. A hand-drawn animal doing something human. A landscape in two colours. A food or drink drawn like a specimen. A map line of a favourite route. A portrait of a pet in a simple style.
Patterns and all-over designs
Three ideas that forgive small flaws. A repeating geometric tile. A scatter of small icons. Stripes or waves in two colours.
Badges and retro looks
Three ideas with built-in structure. A round club badge with a name and a year. A 70s sunburst behind one word. A vintage-label look for a hobby.
Humour and inside jokes
Three ideas that work only when they are specific. A line only your group says. A deadpan notice, like a sign on a door. A joke about a shared habit, the longer the history the better.
How to pick one
Say the idea in one sentence. If it needs two, it is two designs. Check the contrast: pale ink on a dark shirt, or the reverse, and no more than three colours. Look at it small, as a thumbnail on a phone, because that is roughly how it is seen from a few steps away. Keep the important part in the middle of the print area, away from the edges.
Try an idea without learning design
Tell Pablit's design assistant the idea and who the shirt is for. It makes the design, shows it on a shirt, and lets you change it in plain words: bigger, warmer, less busy. Each shirt is made to order, one at a time, with no minimum order.
