Family Reunion Shirts: Ideas, Themes and Sayings

One theme, one short line, one place for the family name. Everything else is decoration.

Family reunion shirts, or t-shirts if you prefer, work when everyone can read them from across a park and nobody minds wearing one. Pick one theme, one short line, and one place for the family name. Here are six themes, sayings that fit on a chest, and what to do if you want a photo on it.

Six themes

Family tree. A simple trunk with a leaf for each branch.

The Family Tree Is a Graph, a design made on Pablit and shown on a placemat. The same idea works on a shirt.

Year and place. "Reunion 2027, the lake house."

The recipe. A dish the family is known for, drawn as a badge.

A matching map. Where everyone came from, as a clean line map.

Old photo style. A woodcut or vintage-poster look in two colours.

Inside joke. One phrase only your family gets.

Sayings that fit on a chest

"Same roots, different branches." "Look who showed up." "It started with Grandma's kitchen." "[Family name] and counting." "We are the reason for the group chat." "Still arguing about the recipe."

Putting a photo on a shirt

A photo shirt needs a high-resolution image and a clear subject. Crop to the face or the group and avoid busy backgrounds. Expect to simplify: a bold illustration of the photo usually reads better than the photo itself, especially from a distance.

Colour: one idea per shirt

Pick the shirt colour first, because it decides the ink. A dark shirt wants pale ink, a light shirt wants dark ink, and a middle tone fights both. If the family is large, one colour per branch is an easy way to make a crowd look organised, as long as each shirt still reads clearly on its own.

Mistakes that make a reunion shirt a drawer shirt

Too many names. A full family list looks impressive on a screen and becomes grey texture on a chest. Put the family name on the shirt and the list on a poster.

Tiny text. If it cannot be read from three steps away, it will not be read.

A joke only half the family gets. It is fine to include one, but make it a small line, not the whole design.

Photos with busy backgrounds. They turn to mud. Crop in close, or ask for an illustrated version.

Matching family shirts

Matching family shirts do not have to be identical. The same design in different colours looks coordinated without looking like a uniform, and one colour per branch makes a big family easy to place at a glance. Keep the design the same size and position on every shirt so the group reads as one.

Check one before the day

Make a single shirt first and look at it on a person before the family sees it. Describe the reunion to Pablit's design assistant. It makes the design, shows it on the shirt, and lets you change it in plain words. Each item is made to order, one at a time, with no minimum order.
